Equity Talks: Sport and Media

white text on blue background: equity talks, sport and media, a facilitated discussion about the impact of media representation from a sport perspective

While media serves as a form of entertainment, it also shapes and reflects our understanding of the world. In this workshop offered by the Office of the Registrar and Student Services and facilitated by KPE's Equity Engagement & Student Advisor, Bachelor of Kinesiology (BKin) students are invited to join in a discussion about the impact of media representation from a sport perspective. We will discuss who is represented in sport and how it shapes our perception of belonging.

Topics of discussion include:

  • Who gets represented in sport media? How do representation in sport shape our ideas of what an athlete looks like?

  • How do racism and sexism show up in sports media?

  • How can we challenge assumptions of who belongs in sport and physical activity?
