This interactive workshop is tailored to students in the Bachelor of Kinesiology (BKin) program and will explore various introductory concepts in anti-oppression, including intersectionality, social positionality, privilege, and complicity as they relate to a health and physical activity context. Students of all backgrounds are welcome!
Participants will:
Explore definitions of EDI and anti-oppression, including challenges to EDI
Identify ways in which one is embedded and complicit in systems of oppression
Understand intersectionality and the ways it can be applied in equity initiatives and research
Link key concepts of anti-oppression and social justice to kinesiology/physical activity community-based movements and research
Relate EDI and anti-oppression concepts to student curricular and co-curricular activities
