Intro to Grad School: Success Stories from Grad Students

Considering graduate school? Tune in on November 25 from 6 – 7 p.m. ET to get insight into the application process from current graduate students at KPE who have successfully gone through it. Learn from current MSc and PhD students about tips on selecting and applying to graduate positions, funding opportunities and more. This event will be tailored to upper year undergraduate students, but all are welcome. No research experience necessary!
Registration closes 2 hours prior to the start of the session.

Panelists include:

  • Jonathan Alejandro Aguilera: Jonathan is a first-year graduate student in the PhD program. He is part of the Iovate/Muscletech Metabolism and Sports Science Lab under the supervision of Dr. Daniel Moore. His research interests include skeletal muscle remodeling and dietary protein intake. 

  • Anika Taylor: Anika is a second-year Master of Science Student in the Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education. She is supervised by Dr. Ashley Stirling and part of the Safe Sport lab. Her research explores how sports journalists' coverage of stories of athlete abuse, harassment and discrimination can advance a safeguarding culture in sport—a sport culture that is more proactive in protecting athletes from these harms, while also promoting values for inclusion, accessibility, and human rights.

  • Beata Friesen: Beata is a first-year Master of Science student in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education. She works under the supervision of Dr. Marius Locke in the Muscle Biochemistry Lab. Her research interests include investigating the influence of estrogen on the expression of heat shock proteins and the repeated bout effect.

  • Rachel Crook: Rachel is a second-year Master of Science student in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education. She is a part of the Sport and Performance Psychology lab, working under the supervision of Dr. Katherine Tamminen. Her research investigates group-based dynamics and socio-emotional processes in team sports, with a focus on the influence of coaches and leaders.
